# Module 3 — Scout a World

> **App quests:** 📖 Read the Day in the Life · 🗺️ Map the Path
> **Time:** 60 min per career · **Worksheet:** Career Scout Sheet

## The big idea

Before you talk to anyone or do any math, get a fast, vivid picture of what a job is actually like. Not the title — the *Tuesday*. The meetings, the tools, the boring parts, the best parts.

## Why it matters

People fall in love with the *idea* of a job ("doctor," "game designer," "lawyer") and never check the daily reality. The day-to-day is what you'll actually live. Scout it first.

## Do this in the app

1. Open `/app` and pick a career world you're curious about.
2. Complete **📖 Read the Day in the Life** — meet the mentor and read their hour-by-hour day. (+20 XP)
3. Complete **🗺️ Map the Path** — study every route into the field, including the ones without four years of debt, and the skills that matter. (+20 XP)

## Look for the unglamorous truth

Every mentor in the app names the *hard part* of their job on purpose. Write it down. Ask yourself: could I live with that part, not just the highlight reel?

Examples from the app:
- The developer: "70% of the job is reading other people's code and sitting in meetings."
- The nurse: "12-hour shifts on your feet, and you see people on their worst days."
- The engineer: "Real engineering is 80% spreadsheets, 20% the cool design stuff."

## Activity — fill the Career Scout Sheet

For your chosen career, capture:

- A one-line description of a typical day.
- The best part and the hardest part.
- The skills that matter most.
- Median pay and the BLS link (straight from the app).
- Your gut reaction after reading: more interested, or less?

## Deliverable

A completed Career Scout Sheet for at least one career (do more if you can — comparing worlds is where insight comes from). Earn the **🔍 Scout** badge by finishing all three Recon quests for a career.
